BACKSTORY

Ezri was born in the Dravanian Hinterlands to El Verlac, a former Garlean engineer, and Q'rizbe Zhavir, a Gyr Abanian treasure hunter and archaeologist. His parents met after El, who had been trying for years to escape Garlemald, was found nearly dying in the Fringes near Castrum Oriens after a skirmish with the Adders by Rizbe, who had been setting out from her clan on a new hunt. She nursed him back to health, having seen the end of the fight where El turned on his legion and sabotaged the war machina in favor of the Adders before fleeing with the last reserves of his strength. Both entranced by Rizbe's unfailing optimism and touched by her gratitude to help a stranger who was of the enemy, El stayed with her after he healed. The couple traveled all across Eorzea together, in search of new discoveries for Rizbe - Ancient ruins, old artifacts, and interesting relics of history, until Rizbe became pregnant with Ezri and the two temporarily settled in Tailfeather in Coerthas among the mountain hunters. They lived happily there together as a family until Rizbe's tragic death when Ezri was three to an animal attack in the Abalathian foothills. After her passing, El, who was always a highly asocial and nervous man, took Ezri and moved into the quiet forests of the Forelands where he had constructed a small cabin for the two of them to live.Ezri grew up deep in the wilderness, surrounded by nature and ancient history. A curious and outgoing child, he loved nothing more than exploring the woods and mountains around the little farm he and his father had cultivated. He would spend his days running barefoot through the trees befriending animals, playacting his daydreams, and discovering secret places among the trees. He was a happy, but lonely child, and often sought the company of wandering traders, adventurers, and hunters - He would trade goods he and his father made or cultivated in exchange for things they couldn't make themselves or to hear a wild tale of adventure from a far flung country and dream of the day he may go on an adventure himself. While Ezri grew up and ventured further from his small farm, he began to see that the forests were home not only to animals and beastmen - But ancient spirits as well; Some kind, some devious. Ezri often sought out the kinder spirits to befriend, and enjoyed learning of the land's forgotten history from the beings of the earth and sky. One spirit in particular he saw more than any other - A very tall man, hooded, holding a crook. The man was always just out of reach, walking purposefully through the foliage as if he was born to it. He never spoke, but Ezri couldn't shake the feeling deep in his very being that this man was both familiar and important to him. It was on one of his outings trying to follow the man's spirit that he came upon his first discovery of ancient Druidic ruins - A cave, small, adorned with simply and crude paintings of runes and spells the likes of which Ezri had never even heard of.After the spirit he came to know as the Father of Druids led him to the ruins, Ezri was overcome with the need to learn more. He devoted his life to unearthing more knowledge of the Druids - A group of Ancient Elezen that lived in Dravania long ago in the days when Eorzeans had just began to discover magic. They were a peaceful people, devoted to preserving nature, mystics and sages who safeguard ancient knowledge and rites through vast oral tradition. They were the first people of Eorzea to speak to the elementals and spirits of nature, and could both summon the elementals to aid them in times of need as well as call on nature itself at will. The Druids had been completely wiped out in the first Dragonsong War after siding with the Dravanians, whom they saw as their kin, and were forgotten by history and time itself... Until Ezri rediscovered their lost traditions and became the first Druid in nearly a thousand years.Ezri continued his simple life of exploring Dravania into adulthood, having chronicled and recorded multiple Druidic sites into a map for the first time in history, as well as beginning to compile the oral history he learned from Druid spirits into books, as well as writing down their runes and spoken language. He was a familiar face in the Forelands to all who commonly passed through, as he frequently did business with the hunters of Tailfeather as well as accompanying them on hunts - And to the Vath, who he considered his great friends and also often traded with. It was one of the adventurers who was stopped in Tailfeather for a supply run who happened upon the Warrior of Light as they came through on their search for Thancred, and advised the Warrior he knew a local boy who may be able to help...Alphinaud and Y'shtola brought Ezri to meet the Warrior and Krile after he excitedly informed him that yes, he had in fact seen a white-haired Hyuran man, and was all too happy to help them treat with the Vath, who he knew had traded with him recently. After displaying shockingly impressive outdoorsmans' ability, a unique set of magical skills, and an encyclopedic knowledge of tech learned from his father, the Scions extended Ezri a formal offer of membership which he delightedly accepted. His first real adventure alongside the Warrior of Light begins with discovering what exactly is going on with that machine behemoth that rose out of the lake in the Dravanian Hinterlands, and... Well. You know the rest of this story, don't you?
